Our One Malaysia

Posted in Blog on Date April 25th, 2011 by Najib Razak | Comments View Comments

It was a privilege to be able to address the rakyat who came to celebrate the first anniversary of the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) late last month. PEMANDU had organised a fun filled event at Bukit Jalil’s Stadium Putra which was attended by thousands to mark this special day. The day signified that with hard work, we can accomplish the improbable.

As you are well aware, we are moving towards becoming a fully developed and high income nation; and the GTP is part and parcel of achieving that dream and Vision 2020. The GTP is aimed at transforming the way the Government works in order to deliver solutions to the issues and concerns that affect you. Just look at what we have been able to achieve within the first year of launching the GTP. Imagine what heights and successes we can attain if all of us were to come together and work as a nation in the spirit of 1Malaysia to achieve a common goal. The success would be monumental. As it is, the current results achieved are already lauded by Transparency International. Below is only a fraction of what we have achieved through the GTP this past year.

In order for a country to transform, the rakyat must be the catalyst. How we lead our lives and the beliefs that we hold dear affect everything around us. I have always stressed on the values of moderation, 1Malaysia and “People First, Performance Now”. If we practise these beliefs and concepts, we can achieve so much more and be a positive influence to those around us.

The chart above shows that we achieved all our 2010 targets and at the same time keeping within the stipulated budgets.

Here are two things you can do as a Malaysian:

Firstly, you can give recognition to the work and effort put into achieving these results by reading the GTP annual report. The report will show you how far we have come and what we are able to achieve in just one year. At a mere 254 pages, this report is the result of the dedication, determination and hard work put in by the civil service, academics, NGOs, private sector and many more who have come together to address and provide solutions to the issues that matter to you.

Secondly; you can play your part in transforming our nation. There are so many ways that you can contribute to these successes. Whether it is in fighting crime, whistle blowing and eradicating corruption, helping students and the poor or even giving feedback on how we can further improve future outcomes and results, your contribution moves us forward. Together we can forge a culture of continuous improvements with you, the rakyat, taking the initiative to propel the country forward.

It is a long road ahead and there will be some hard and painful times but we must endure short term pain for long term gain if we want to rake in the benefits. These benefits will not only be enjoyed by us today but also by our future generations to come. Let us ensure a brighter and better future for Malaysia.

  • PENJAWAT AWAM 1MALAYSIA

    SALAM 1MALAYASIA DATUK SERI,

    Sekian, Terima Kasih.

    PENJAWAT AWAM 1MALAYSIA

MALAYSIAN PARASITES – Mr. Najib, I understand and respect your intention and strategies to transform Malaysia. But I am more concern with the group of parasites (civil contractors) residing within the BN party and also residing within the public sector who are readily looking for opportunities within this Transformation Program to fatten their own pocket. I am giving you a real example. There is a school which received a substantial allocation from Education Department to replace some school facilities which are old and leaking, Such Education Allocation was never given to this school in the past 40 years. Upon received the cheque, the principal of this school keep receiving calls from these parasites (civil contractor) of a particular political party aligned to BN and pursuating (with threat) the principal of this school to award the civil work of repairing this school to them. It is astonishing as these parasites (civil contractor) is linked to some senior officers of the State’s Education Department and the principal of the school is facing cool-shoulder from these State’s Education Officers when he/she seek guidelines from the officer of the State Education Ministry when these State Education Officer know that this school principal want to award this school repair job through open tender. You may suggest the people to report to MACC, but where is the proof. Moreover, the recent finding of the Royal Commision in TBH case that the MACC officers are another corrupted lots who watch blue film at MACC office, telling lies after lies in the both the Coronel Court and Royal Commission, the upper level coordinate the evidences given by the subordinates in TBH case, etc. So, your transformation program could be good on paper but when reach the implementation stages, the people may not enjoy the benefits of your transformation programmes as the funds had been sucked dry by the parasites within your own BN political party.

Brain drain has not led to fall in FDI, says Najib – ~!!!!???

    Dear PM,
A good way to ‘state it’ – First, you admit there is a brain drain (dont know if you are interested to engage the problem); then you say – it doesn’t affect fall in FDI. this is call WAG the DOG.

Lets segregate the problem into 2 part:

    1. There is Brain Drain –

    2. FDI is FDI

What happen to our M’sian politician ? all either in DENIAL, or twist it to divert attention.

Mr PM, I am very hurt with your DPM after he take over as Educ Minister the high achieving Tamil, my daughter from remote Tawau, in school filled with student from newly IC obtained Bugis Immigrants with 4A and 5 A’s got into JPA Medical Seat whereas my daughter got 11A all A’s denied any chances. Being Tokoh Nilam and the whole school knows that your admin is biased and the teachers themselves are shy to look at my daughter in School. Are you very honest soul inspite of me appealing to you for so many times even with cronies like Tan Seri Liew….a known Tow Kay Kayu Balak and leader of renegade Sabah Timber Robbers!!.

    Dear PM,

I admire and respect your vision, and I sincerely wish that it could be achieved. In some countries, politics can exist relatively independent from the economic growth, but our country is different. The way I see it, our economy is too inherently intertwined with our politics and there is no way to proceed without solving the increasingly heated racial tension. The trend thus far shows that our society is increasingly polarized, with Chinese backing the opposition and the Malays supporting mainly BN. MCA’s recent move to back up from the government if it lost further support will only aggravate the racial tension in the country. Many thorny issues are at hand, Perkasa, Utusan Melayu, UMNO radicals, and I am sure you know the situation much more than I do. But don’t you think its time to take drastic measures to put an end to all this, before things spiral out of controlled? If the GE is to be called and I went to poll, I want to vote for Najib, but I am sad to say that I don’t want to vote Muhyiddin and I don’t want to vote for UMNO radicals. How am I supposed to vote BN?

‘One Malaysia’ emphasizes ethnic harmony, national unity, and efficient governance but racial and cultural diversity in Malaysia. Can Malaysia achieve these goals in this century if the country employs only one language for both national and official languages, particularly in education and government sectors?

As we know, multiculturalism has failed in many countries (such as UK, Germany, US …). One of the main factors is using only ‘one language’ for their national and official languages. Some countries are largely multi-racial and multi-cultural, but they exclusively use only one language for all sectors, particularly in education and government sectors. This policy has made one particular ethnic/racial group becomes culturally and racially very special/superior, while other ethnic groups in their home country turn out to be less essential, and indeed feel excluded. Malaysia should not repeat the same mistakes those countries have made for so long.

Malaysia, if for the goals of One Malaysia, not only should have one ‘national’ language – Malay (this is important for Malaysia), but also should have at least two ‘official’ languages – Malay and English (or even more official languages, such as including Chinese) in education and government sectors for better services and better development for all Malaysians, and for the unity of all Malaysians. In support of the development of this very ‘unique’ multicultural-multiracial One Malaysia’s goals in this century, I think we need to be aware of only employing one official language in education and government sectors is simply insufficient and unsuitable.

    What do you think?

Mr. Najib, Your Transformation Program is not felt by the middle and lower income Malaysian. Below incident happen in East Malaysia is a undisputable evidence.

    Get Our Priorities Right
Comment: We spend billions on submarines, new rifles and on developing geniuses and lots of money are being laundered and more are gone via corruption and reckless spending. Millions are expended on promoting 1Malaysia. But we can’t spare 20 sen for this boy who committed suicide in order not to be a burden his mother who has other kids to take care. A relative of this mother is a politician to boot.
Recently, my wife, Dr. Kamsiah and I visited a friend in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah who runs a home for the mentally challenged, orphans and the aged. Our dear friend, Anne Keyworth runs this sanctuary for the “helpless” Malaysians using her own limited resources and with the help of some caring benefactors. Angelic Anne told us that trying to get help from the Social Welfare Department is like spitting blood. People who work there have no compassion and are full of themselves.
Is Malaysia a caring nation when thousands of Malaysians are left out from the mainstream of national life, denied of their basic rights to food, shelter and care? Of what use, Minister Idris Jala (Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil too), and your policy wonks, is the ETP (Economic Transformation Plan), if we cannot make life a little bearable for people who need our help the most. I am personally not impressed with your programme when I know that the Government cannot serve needy Malaysians, empower the poor, and make their lives better.
Mr. Prime Minister, I hope you can stay connected with ordinary Malaysians. Right now, you are too elitist. I can’t blame you because you are an aristocrat. But you must make a special effort to stay connected through your actions, not words. Show us that you and your colleagues have compassion (ehsan). I do not judge you by your “pie in the sky “schemes (management consultants call it Vision) involving billions of ringgits.
I want to think of you as a Leader and Prime Minister who can show that you care for all Malaysians, especially those who are poor and those who are mentally challenged. If I may be a wee bit audacious, I suggest that you should rearrange your priorities and do what is right for all Malaysians, irrespective of their race (no more of thependatang and PERKASA nonsense please), colour or religion. After all, we are One People under God. In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Most Compassionate. –Din Merican
Mum Breaks Silence over her son’s suicide
Kota Kinabalu: The mother of 11-year-old Donni John Duin – the SK Kinarut pupil who was found hanged from the ceiling of their house at Kg Suangon in Kinarut, Papar, on March 20 – thought he would never do so again after advising him on a previous attempt.
Hina Joloni, 37, believed the abject poverty that the family of six siblings endured proved too much to make him want to try again.
“He told me he could not take it anymore living in the conditions we were in,” she said, adding that towards the end, Donni also had to endure cruel teasing at school by classmates who likened the porridge he brought from home daily to that of dog vomit.
Hina said shortly before the tragedy, he confided to her a very disturbing thing that happened in school.
“At first he asked me if I had prepared food, which would be porridge mixed with kangkung (a vegetable) that we eat everyday.
“He said he did not eat the porridge that I prepared for him at school earlier because the students were making fun of the food, teasing him that it was like eating dog vomit,” she said, tears welling in his eyes.
After she told him to ignore what the students said, she said Donni John, who looked depressed at the time, asked if he could borrow 20 sen to buy ice cream.
“I told him I did not even have 5 sen, let alone 20 sen, to give him…I was so sad I had to tell him that,” recalled Hina.
As they have been living on a fixed assistance of RM70 from the Welfare Department, she said, she could barely afford to provide any luxuries to her children, aged between five and 17.
“He sighed and looked at me before asking when was my next appointment at the hospital, as I have thalassaemia and a heart condition.
“After I replied, he said sudah la kita tidak cukup makan mummy lagi balik-balik masuk hospital (we do not even have enough to eat and mummy has to be treated over and over in hospital),” she said.
Hina said Donni John had previously attempted suicide the same way but that she got to him in the nick of time.
“I tried my best to control my emotions then, but being incensed and terrified at the same time, I lost it and shouted at him to get him to tell me why he would do such a thing.
“My son replied there would be fewer people to feed and to take care of if he were to go and that his share of the food could be given to his brothers and sisters,” she said, fighting back tears.
“I know mummy has a heart condition, so if I die mummy can also take my heart,” she recalled him telling her. Hina described Donni as a quiet boy, the kind of person who would only talk when someone talked to him first.
She said they were fortunate to be living in the house at Kinarut, thanks to a man who she got to know in the hospital and was kind enough to let them stay for free temporarily. “Although we have hardly any furniture and electricity, we are grateful to even have a home,” she said. Hina said the family did not receive help from anyone as she did not know where to go to for help.
“I am ashamed to borrow from people because I think that would burden other people…the rice that we have at home is also borrowed from my friends.”
Previously the family was not living in such dire straits because her husband supported them through the income he obtained from tapping rubber.
“I was angry at him for getting involved in drugs so I reported him for the good of our family because I heard people doing drugs could end up doing bad things. After I reported him in people started talking behind my back. They said all sorts of things like ‘if I could betray my husband then I would have no problem doing the same to my children’ or ‘there goes the drug addict’s wife’,” Hina said.
“That is why I decided to move from our previous place in Kg Sugut in Penampang to Kinarut…to get away from those people,” she said, adding that her husband, whose sentence runs until 2016, has been in jail for about a year.
Although Donni John’s death has added to Hina’s burden, she is determined to keep going for the sake of her other children. She knows he would want her to do so. ”I miss him so much.”–Daily Express

Lately there has been a lot of comments that the Chinese community no longer supports Barisan. Actually that’s not really accurate. The truth is that the Chinese community no longer supports MCA. Why? It is because the ordinary Chinese views the MCA as a grouping of taukehs who are only looking after themselves, chasing after datukships and business contracts. The fact is that the majority of the Chinese community are working class citizens with challenges and aspirations shared by every other citizen in this country. And the perception is that the MCA does not care for the ordinary Chinese. The MCA keeps on harping about Chinese education. What is the MCA doing about the thousands of Chinese students in secondary schools who cannot interact either in English or in Malay? These kids cannot even understand what the teachers are talking about. Also, why has the MCA not conduct campaigns against loan sharks, who are also mainly Chinese? Look at the roadsigns vandalized by these criminals and the number of cards and brochures they throw into our houses everyday. Instead of fighting Perkasa, how about the MCA fight the loan sharks, DVD peddlers, pimps, brothel operators, gangsters, fake mediums and encourage parents to ensure that their children also master English and Malay.

    Salam 1Malaysia Datuk Seri,

    SEKIAN, TERIMA KASIH

    Yang benar,

    PEKERJA SWASTA TERTINDAS

    Datuk Seri,

For the overtaking lane in Pan Borneo Trunk Road which yet to be constructed after so much talk about in the newspaper by one of the Sarawak State Minister Datuk Micheal Manyin.  Recently announce that the proposed 95 overtaking lane cost RM400 million. For the R3 road standard should it cost that much ? Furthermore accessibility for construction of the road should not be issued as its build on exist trunk road which might be the road shoulder of the Pan Borneo Trunk Road.

Its great if the Over taking lane can be implemented as soon as possible but with lower cost as money spend is hard earned tax payer money.
